February 2011: It's a girl!

We waited 9 long months and our baby was finally ready for life on the outside! Around 5 am I awoke feeling a bit off. After waiting approximately 20 minutes I knew what was going on, I was having contractions. I waited for about another hour or so before waking Chris up to let him know that unfortunately, it didn't look like we'd be going to that nights Sabres game. I sent him to work to tie up any loose ends and Christa, JJ, and Sydney came to keep me company while we waited for the contractions to become more regular. Grandma Ford and Grandpa Ross both stopped by for a bit too to see how we were doing. Finally around 2 pm Chris came home, and soon after we called the Doctor. We got to their office around 3:30 pm to be told that I was in active labor and was about 6 cm dilated and that we should hurry on over to the hospital.
Once we got to the hospital and got settled in, it was around 5 pm and I was over 7 cm dilated. From there everything progressed perfectly (even though it was crazy painful).  After an hour of pushing, Abigail Rose was born 5 days early on February 23, 2011 at 8:45 pm. She was 7 lbs 11 oz and 20 inches long. We were so excited and surprised at her early arrival!
Grandma and Grandpa Johnson/Ross/Ford were all waiting in the waiting room along with Uncle Andrew and Auntie Aimee to hear the news and meet our baby girl. Auntie Erin and Uncle Joe came in just after she was born (from the Sabres game we would have been at haha)! They were all so happy. Unfortunately Uncle Dan was still in France, so he had to hear all of the updates online, but we knew he was just as excited, even though he couldn't be there in person.
So many people came to visit the next day to meet our new addition! We had so many non stop visitors, it was great that so many people already loved Abby so much. And before we knew it it was time to head home.

The puppies were anxiously awaiting our arrival back home and couldn't wait to see what this strange thing was that we brought with us. They both did great with her as we all adjusted to our new life together as a big happy family.
Once were all settled in Kimmy and Lynzee came over to meet Abby and bring me a new mom care package of all the things they wish they had had/known about when they had their boys. It came in very handy and was very helpful in my recovery! They also brought some great clothes. Auntie Christa and Uncle Jon went on a baby girl shopping spree, too, because they felt that Abby should have plenty of pink and purple to wear, instead of all the neutral clothes we had. It was great! They also brought some adorable bows for her. My Aunt Barb also came with bags upon bags of girl clothes. Looks like we won't have to shop for girl clothes for a while after all! The adventure has just begun!
